Sheepish Yarn Bombing Day

Happy Saturday, everyone!  It's been a very yarn filled weekend so far.  Yesterday I took a trip to the yarn shop to start making a present, and today I went yarn bombing.  For those of you who have never heard of yarn bombing, it's essentially yarn graffiti.  Some people get really, really into it and create amazing pieces of art.  Don't believe me? Try Googling it!

Anyways, last week Meredith from the blog One Sheepish Girl declared today Sheepish Yarn Bombing Day.  As a fellow shy young woman, she's really been an inspiration for me and I have always enjoyed reading her blog, so I decided to get in on the action.  I yarn bombed the park up the street on their basketball court.  I have to admit, it was really exhilarating and I wasn't as nervous as I thought I'd be.  Quite a few people walked past me curiously, but only one little kid had the guts to come up and say, "Hey, that's a basketball hoop!"

Why, yes it is.  And now it's more colorful than ever.

Overall, I'd count this yarn bombing experiment as a success, and I cannot wait to do it again.  Maybe sometime soon I'll get up the guts to do it in a more public place, or in a bigger piece.  I can't wait to see what everyone else did.  Thanks for the challenge, Meredith!

Fun Finds: Guilty Pleasures

Now it's really starting to feel like fall, and I find myself looking at some of my favorite things: warm clothes, fun furniture, and baseball paraphernalia.

 1. Lavender Coat (Pickles) - I love fall and winter simply for the excuse to wear warm sweaters!  I'm always amazed at the variation in the sweaters that Pickles designs, and I particularly love this one for its ability to be either dressed up or worn casually.  Plus, doesn't it just look like the fluffiest thing ever?

2. Raskog Kitchen Cart (Ikea) - Ikea has been a weakness of mine ever since I was a kid.  They always have the most interesting pieces of furniture that easily add a bit of a simple, modern twist to any room. I love this color, and I think that this cart could be used anywhere, not just in the kitchen.

3. SF Giants iPhone 4 Case (MLB.com) - And last but not least, because we're moving into the post season, a little piece of team spirit!  What can I say about it other than it's orange (my favorite color) and represents my favorite baseball team?  Of course, I might have to switch cases if I happened to go to LA...

In other news, I hurt my neck somehow over the weekend, and am basically one big sore muscle.  It's amazing how difficult it is to remain calm and positive when you're uncomfortable.  I guess it's at least a good lesson in patience, although it is making my upcoming fall break seem farther and farther away.

Getting Down to Business

Happy weekend everyone!  It's absolutely gorgeous here in the city, as it always is when I tend to have a lot of work due.  Seriously, I think the universe just likes to mess with me.  But we're already coming up on midterms in these next two weeks, which means I need to really buckle down and step up my productivity.

Which probably means I should stop writing blog posts just for the sake of avoiding my essays.  One step at a time, right?

Beginning Again

I never quite know what to say in posts like this, but I do feel like I need to mark this occasion in the "blog-osphere".

Today is my 21st birthday.

Although that in itself is big, it fits into a year that is big over all.  Most of my friends are off studying abroad this year which means that I'm living off campus, and in the city, mostly on my own.  That's both exciting for me and a bit intimidating.  I'm having to find the perfect balance between being alone and not being lonely.  So far it's been going well, but I'm sure I'll have my ups and downs throughout the year.  I really feel that this is the perfect backdrop for such a big birthday, because I really feel more independent and capable as a person this year.

I can only really thank God for allowing me to reach my stride and allow everything to fall into place.  Oh, and my amazing family who welcomed me home for by birthday weekend.  I returned to a sweltering Southern California for a couple of days for some filming with my brother (which I hope I can show you soon!), some shopping with my mom, and lots of pasta!

I finished up a knitting project while I was there, stuffing this cable pillow that my mom had specifically requested.  We finished up the weekend with dinner on Balboa Island and frozen banana's afterwards.

So basically I feel like I'm starting a new phase of my life, as an adult (whatever that means).  I'm sure I'll get the hang of it, eventually.  But until then, I'm glad that I have the amazing family and friends that I do to support and push me in the right direction.
