Skydiving Adventures

Just to clarify, I did not go skydiving myself.  I am much too chicken for that!  Rather, my younger brother went for his 18th birthday (all grown up!) and I simply flew home (without jumping out of the plane) so that I could partake in this crazy experience.  Here's a quick picture of Trevor and his best friend Melisa before they took flight...

And here he is falling out of the sky!  I really cannot believe that he actually got up the courage to do this almost as much as I cannot believe that he's actually 18.  I guess this means I have to stop being in denial about my own age!

Happy Birthday, Miss Bennet!

Hello, all!  I greatly apologize for my lack of posting the past couple of weeks, but I am now back in the city for the Spring semester!  Classes started last week, so I've been doing a lot of unpacking, book-buying, and general running around trying to get ready for all of my classes.  I already have some new room decorations and projects going that I can't wait to share with you all, but I need time to sit down and write them up, which I will hopefully have soon as I settle into a more normal schedule.

Anyways, I thought that, as an avid fan of Jane Austen, I needed to do a little celebratory post for the her most beloved novel.  That's right, this week Pride and Prejudice is turning 200 years old!  It's simply amazing to me that, even after so much time, a novel based simply around the social constructs of Regency England continues to capture the hearts of readers everywhere.  Isn't that why we read literature like this?

Beginning Again

I never quite know what to say in posts like this, but I do feel like I need to mark this occasion in the "blog-osphere".

Today is my 21st birthday.

Although that in itself is big, it fits into a year that is big over all.  Most of my friends are off studying abroad this year which means that I'm living off campus, and in the city, mostly on my own.  That's both exciting for me and a bit intimidating.  I'm having to find the perfect balance between being alone and not being lonely.  So far it's been going well, but I'm sure I'll have my ups and downs throughout the year.  I really feel that this is the perfect backdrop for such a big birthday, because I really feel more independent and capable as a person this year.

I can only really thank God for allowing me to reach my stride and allow everything to fall into place.  Oh, and my amazing family who welcomed me home for by birthday weekend.  I returned to a sweltering Southern California for a couple of days for some filming with my brother (which I hope I can show you soon!), some shopping with my mom, and lots of pasta!

I finished up a knitting project while I was there, stuffing this cable pillow that my mom had specifically requested.  We finished up the weekend with dinner on Balboa Island and frozen banana's afterwards.

So basically I feel like I'm starting a new phase of my life, as an adult (whatever that means).  I'm sure I'll get the hang of it, eventually.  But until then, I'm glad that I have the amazing family and friends that I do to support and push me in the right direction.

A Sunny Day for a Birthday

Yesterday was an amazing day. Not only did I turn a whopping 20 years old, but it was probably the nicest day we've had so far. This made it the perfect day for my friend Justine to complete what was possibly the greatest assignment ever: walk through Golden Gate Park to the beach. I tagged along while she took beautiful pictures in sunny weather. We looked at the trees...

and got lunch at the cute little cafe called the Java Beach Cafe. Even though they were recommended to us based on their coffee, we were happy to discover that their sandwiches are just as tasty. Their menu is seriously impressive, with tons of sandwiches, pastries, and both hot and cold drinks. I personally enjoyed the ice tea, though it was a little bitter. Over all, it's good food in a cute, beachy atmosphere!

Happy Birthday, Trevor!

Today is my little brother's birthday. Of course, he barely qualifies as my little brother any more, as he towers a good seven inches over me. But he could be turning 30, and I would still see him as my little bro. He's one of my best friends, who I've shared practically everything with my entire life.

So here's to you, Trev. Wishing the best birthday possible to the best brother ever!
