Fun Finds: Thinking Cosy

We're having seriously low temperatures here in Southern California, and that combined with my nearing return to the City by the Bay has me thinking cosy, warm thoughts to beat the chill.

 1. Chamomile Citrus (Mighty Leaf Tea) - Until this past year, I was a strictly black-tea drinking girl.  After trying this delicious tea, however, I am forever willing to try interesting herbal teas!  This is my current favorite, with a bit of honey or without.

2. 1970s Orange Ceramic Teapot (Etsy) - Speaking of tea, I've been drinking so much lately that I'm starting to think I should just go ahead and make pots rather than single cups!  I love this simple teapot mainly for the color.

3. Magical Thinking Kilim Medallion Duvet Cover (Urban Outfitters) - The more of these Fun Finds I do, the more my obsession with textiles and knits is becoming apparent.  On cold days, there is nothing I would rather do than remain curled up in bed with a good book, and I would love to do it under this beautiful design.  I normally wouldn't go for so dark a fabric, but I really love the pattern; it reminds me of Middle Eastern mosaic designs.

4. Cable Knitted Slipper Boots (Etsy) - And these are for the practical, because who can really afford to stay in bed all day?  They look ridiculously warm and comfortable, and remind me of a pair of muck lucks that I used to have as a kid.

Fun Finds: Literary Love

It's been a busy couple of weeks, and I can't tell you how glad I am to be able to just relax a little this afternoon.  Which of course means that I'm doing a little online "window shopping."  I wasn't looking for items of a certain theme, and yet all of these items are distinctly literary.  I guess that means I'm studying the right subject!

1. Make Your Own USB Typewriter (Etsy) - I saw a short feature on this USB Typewriter, and immediately fell in love.  I have wanted a typewriter for as long as I can remember, but have never had cause to get one as they become more and more obsolete.  But this is pure brilliance, as it can be used with any computer or iPad.  Talk about up-cycling!

2. The Remains of the Day (Amazon) - Kazuo Ishiguro is one of my favorite authors, mainly because of the amazing lyrical quality of his writing.  I've read Never Let Me Go about four different times, and have had this next novel recommended to me on multiple occasions. Maybe, as my school work starts to wind down, I'll find time to actually fit it in!

3. A Writer's Ink (Threadless) - I used to submit t-shirt designs to Threadless, but I only learned that they also sell prints of their artist's work recently.  I love this piece because, well, what writer doesn't feel like their ink and writing brings something alive?

Fun Finds: Guilty Pleasures

Now it's really starting to feel like fall, and I find myself looking at some of my favorite things: warm clothes, fun furniture, and baseball paraphernalia.

 1. Lavender Coat (Pickles) - I love fall and winter simply for the excuse to wear warm sweaters!  I'm always amazed at the variation in the sweaters that Pickles designs, and I particularly love this one for its ability to be either dressed up or worn casually.  Plus, doesn't it just look like the fluffiest thing ever?

2. Raskog Kitchen Cart (Ikea) - Ikea has been a weakness of mine ever since I was a kid.  They always have the most interesting pieces of furniture that easily add a bit of a simple, modern twist to any room. I love this color, and I think that this cart could be used anywhere, not just in the kitchen.

3. SF Giants iPhone 4 Case (MLB.com) - And last but not least, because we're moving into the post season, a little piece of team spirit!  What can I say about it other than it's orange (my favorite color) and represents my favorite baseball team?  Of course, I might have to switch cases if I happened to go to LA...

In other news, I hurt my neck somehow over the weekend, and am basically one big sore muscle.  It's amazing how difficult it is to remain calm and positive when you're uncomfortable.  I guess it's at least a good lesson in patience, although it is making my upcoming fall break seem farther and farther away.

Fun Finds: Getting Ready for Fall

Like most women, I love the idea of being able to go out and buy every little thing that catches my eye. Unfortunately, that's not very practical, and so I resort to either window shopping or browsing online.  This post is a little collection of things that have recently caught my eye, inspired largely by a late-night conversation with my mother and the always beautiful One Sheepish Girl's Blush Lists.

 

1. Mociun Mandala Duvet Cover (Urban Outfitters) - I'm a big fan of bright, patterned duvet colors paired with subtle sheets.  Ever since I first discovered that UO also sells bedding, I check back every once in a while to drool over their fun patterns.  I particularly like this duvet cover because of its coloring; it captures the current mood of summer fading into autumn.

2. Harbor Springs Top (Anthropologie) - As any of my friends to describe my sense of style and the only thing that they'll probably agree on is that I am obsessed with stripes.  That being said, this beautiful top caught my eye immediately.  Not only is it stripped, but it's also my favorite shade of orange!

3. My Life in France by Julia Child - I gave this book to one of my friends last Christmas, to accompany her on her semester abroad in Paris.  As I have been talking to her about her preparations, I have found myself wanting to read this as well.  Hopefully I will be able to make time for some pleasure reading this semester.

4. Baylin Mary Janes (Kors Michael Kors Kids) - Now I know this might seem like a strange one, seeing as they're children's shoes, but I really am a little person.  I didn't just pick my blog name to be cute!  I like these shoes because they seem versatile; I can picture myself wearing these to class, work, or a job interview.

It's fun to let yourself crave things every once and a while.  So go ahead; anything in particular catching your eye?
