Labor Day 2012

I hope you all are having a wonderful Labor Day holiday!  I know I am spending it in the true spirit of workers everywhere; working, on a big presentation that I have to give tomorrow.  How appropriate is that?

I've also picked the video below in the spirit of Labor day (and based on the fact that it's been stuck in my head for days).  It's a reminder to celebrate workers everywhere, no matter how, erm, unconventional their occupations.

Fun Finds: Getting Ready for Fall

Like most women, I love the idea of being able to go out and buy every little thing that catches my eye. Unfortunately, that's not very practical, and so I resort to either window shopping or browsing online.  This post is a little collection of things that have recently caught my eye, inspired largely by a late-night conversation with my mother and the always beautiful One Sheepish Girl's Blush Lists.

 

1. Mociun Mandala Duvet Cover (Urban Outfitters) - I'm a big fan of bright, patterned duvet colors paired with subtle sheets.  Ever since I first discovered that UO also sells bedding, I check back every once in a while to drool over their fun patterns.  I particularly like this duvet cover because of its coloring; it captures the current mood of summer fading into autumn.

2. Harbor Springs Top (Anthropologie) - As any of my friends to describe my sense of style and the only thing that they'll probably agree on is that I am obsessed with stripes.  That being said, this beautiful top caught my eye immediately.  Not only is it stripped, but it's also my favorite shade of orange!

3. My Life in France by Julia Child - I gave this book to one of my friends last Christmas, to accompany her on her semester abroad in Paris.  As I have been talking to her about her preparations, I have found myself wanting to read this as well.  Hopefully I will be able to make time for some pleasure reading this semester.

4. Baylin Mary Janes (Kors Michael Kors Kids) - Now I know this might seem like a strange one, seeing as they're children's shoes, but I really am a little person.  I didn't just pick my blog name to be cute!  I like these shoes because they seem versatile; I can picture myself wearing these to class, work, or a job interview.

It's fun to let yourself crave things every once and a while.  So go ahead; anything in particular catching your eye?

Wall Wednesdays 2.0!

Happy Wednesday, everyone!  My (most) recent absence from blogging was due to the fact that in the last couple of weeks, I moved back to San Francisco, into my grandparents' house, and started school again.  So I think it's safe to say that I was just a tad bit busy.

But now I'm back, and with a short tour of my new room!  My grandmother was kind enough to allow me to stay with her for the school year, and gave me what we have always referred to as "the Big Room".  It's a long, pale yellow room that is complete with an added on sunroom.  One of my uncles shipped in his old furniture from a previous house in Minnesota, and is letting me use his gorgeous king sized bed.  One thing is for sure; after two years in the dorms, this seems like heaven!

But most importantly, this means that I now have a new space to decorate!  So remember last year when I tried to do Wall Wednesdays?  Well, I'm bringing them back as the new and improved Wall Wednesdays 2.0!  This won't, of course, be limited by what I put on the walls, but any little decorations or improvements I make to the room.  Right now I'm hoping to do this every other week, but I'm not going to put strict rules on this project.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, that gorilla painting is not mine!  But trust me, it grows on you.

It's... August??

Well, Hobbes, here we are at the middle of August, and this is exactly how I feel!  We're driving back to San Francisco on Thursday, and it's pretty bitter sweet.  I'm excited to get back to school and friends and classes, while not really wanting to leave my beautiful home again!  What with such an incredible summer Olympics, this vacation was extra sweet and I don't want it to end.

At least I know I'm not the only one!
